Open 7Z Files on Android Online — Chrome, No App Install
Android doesn't include a native 7Z extractor. Google Files, Samsung My Files, and most file manager apps handle ZIP natively but show 7Z files as unknown types. The typical solution is to install a file manager app with 7Z support from the Play Store — but that means granting storage permissions to another app and often dealing with ads.
FastZip runs in Chrome on Android — no app install, no Play Store, no permissions beyond what Chrome already has.
Common scenarios for 7Z on Android:
- Game mods — Nexus Mods, ModDB, and community modding sites distribute game mods as .7z files for their size efficiency. If you manage game files on Android or receive a mod shared via Discord, FastZip opens it directly in Chrome.
- Software distributions — Open-source software downloads from SourceForge and GitHub releases sometimes come as .7z. If you need to check a README, version file, or changelog from a downloaded archive, FastZip lets you browse without extracting everything.
- Received via Discord/Telegram — Discord and Telegram on Android save received files to local storage. Tap the file download, then open Chrome and navigate to FastZip to extract.
Chrome on Android memory — Chrome on modern Android devices (4 GB+ RAM) handles 7Z archives up to the 200 MB free tier limit reliably. On devices with 2–3 GB RAM, close other Chrome tabs before extracting large archives. LZMA2 decompression is memory-intensive during extraction of solid archives.
LZMA2 and solid archives on mobile — If the 7Z file is a solid archive, decompression requires processing the entire stream before individual files can be extracted. This is more memory-intensive than non-solid archives. On lower-end Android devices, a large solid 7Z may cause the Chrome tab to restart. Try with smaller test files first if your device has limited RAM.

Opening Game Mods Downloaded to Android
Game modding communities on Discord, Nexus Mods, and ModDB frequently distribute mods as .7z files. If you're managing a modded game on an Android device or tablet and received a mod pack as .7z, FastZip is the fastest path to extracting it.
Download the .7z file from Chrome (it goes to Downloads). Open a new Chrome tab, navigate to fastzip.io, tap the drop zone, and select the file from the Downloads folder via Chrome's file picker. After extraction, files land in Downloads and can be moved to the game's data directory using Files by Google or your device's file manager.
Opening 7Z Files from Discord on Android
Discord on Android saves received files to /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.discord/cache/ or /storage/emulated/0/Downloads/ depending on how you save them. Tap the download arrow on the Discord file attachment to save it. Then open Chrome (not the in-app browser — use a full Chrome window), navigate to FastZip, and select the file.
Note: Discord's in-app browser may have restricted file picker access. Always use a full Chrome window for FastZip.
