Open RAR Files on Android — No App Install, Works in Chrome
Android doesn't include a built-in RAR extractor. If someone sends you a .rar file on WhatsApp, Telegram, or via email, tapping it might show "No app found to open this file" — or worse, it opens the Play Store and shows you a dozen sketchy ad-filled apps to download.
FastZip works directly in Chrome on Android. No app needed, no Play Store, no ads. Open Chrome, go to fastzip.io, tap the drop zone, select your RAR file from Downloads or internal storage, and extract in seconds.
Step-by-step on Android: 1. Open Chrome on your Android device 2. Go to fastzip.io — no account needed 3. Tap the drop zone in the processor tool above 4. Navigate to your .rar file using the Android file picker (usually in Downloads or Files) 5. Tap the file to load it — FastZip scans the archive contents 6. Tap "Extract all files" to download, or tap individual files to download selectively 7. Extracted files go to your Downloads folder automatically
Works with Files sent via messaging apps — If you received a .rar file in WhatsApp, Telegram, or similar, first save it to device storage (usually via the download/save icon in the app), then open FastZip and select it. Most messaging apps save files to /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/ or similar paths, accessible via the file picker.
Android memory limits — Chrome on Android allocates 512 MB–2 GB of memory per tab depending on your device. For very large RAR files (near the 200 MB limit), extraction may be slower on older Android phones with 2 GB of RAM or less. If Chrome crashes, close other tabs first to free up memory and try again.

Opening a RAR File Received on WhatsApp (Android)
WhatsApp stores received files in /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Documents/. To open a RAR file received in WhatsApp:
- In WhatsApp, tap the file attachment and tap the download icon to save it
- Open Chrome and navigate to fastzip.io
- Tap the drop zone and choose "Files" in the file picker
- Navigate to Internal Storage > WhatsApp > Media > WhatsApp Documents
- Select your .rar file
- Extract the contents
The extracted files download to your Chrome Downloads folder and can be opened with any app that supports their format.
Opening RAR Files from Google Drive on Android
If your RAR file is stored in Google Drive, open Google Drive first and download the .rar file to your device's internal storage. Then open FastZip in Chrome and select the file from Downloads.
Alternatively, if you have the Google Drive app installed, some file types can be directly selected from the FastZip file picker via Google Drive. The experience varies by Android version.
Why Not Use a RAR Extractor App?
The Play Store has dozens of RAR extractor apps. Most are free — but "free" often means ad-supported, with banner ads, interstitials, and sometimes aggressive data collection. Some popular archive apps have been caught uploading file metadata to remote servers for analytics.
FastZip runs entirely in Chrome. No app install means no app permissions, no background processes, and no ads. The WASM engine extracts your RAR file in Chrome's sandboxed environment with no access to other apps or system resources.
